Sigd falls on 29 Heshvan — fifty days after Yom Kippur. It is the central Beta Israel holiday: morning fast, white clothing, ascent to a high place, Ge'ez prayers for Jerusalem and the Temple, then celebration.
Communities in Tigray, Amhara, and Gondar climbed mountains together. The ritual expressed longing for Jerusalem — shared across all regions.
