In Ethiopia, Sigd was celebrated on mountains in Tigray, Amhara, and Gondar. In Israel, the largest public gathering is at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem — fasting, white dress, Ge'ez prayer, and joy after sunset.
A high place overlooking Jerusalem fits the traditional pattern of ascent and prayer for the Temple. Tens of thousands attend each year; the event is covered nationally since Sigd became a holiday in 2008.
